2017 Grammy Nominations and My Picks

February 10, 2017

The Grammys are coming up this Sunday night, and as I do every year, I’ll pick who I think should win, along with who I think will actually win…

Here are all the categories that a country artist is nominated for regardless of category.

Overall Album of the Year

Adele – 25
Beyonce – Lemonade
Justin Bieber – Purpose
Drake – Views
Sturgill Simpson – A Sailor’s Guide To Earth

I’d love to see Sturgil take this and honestly it’s the only full album that I listened to out of these! But I’m gonna guess Adele or the Biebs walks away with this…

Best New Artist

Kelsea Ballerini
The Chainsmokers
Chance The Rapper
Maren Morris
Anderson .Paak

It would awesome to see Kelsea win this for what she has been able to accomplish as an independent country artist, but if you pay attention to the all the genres, Chance The Rapper has changed the music game and he deserves it.

Best Country Solo Performance

Brandy Clark – Love Can Go To Hell
Miranda Lambert – Vice
Maren Morris – My Church
Carrie Underwood – Church Bells
Keith Urban – Blue Ain’t Your Color

This one is hard to pick. All of the nominees have a strong case. I would pick Keith, but I won’t be surprised when Maren or Miranda win.

Best Country Duo/Group Performance

Dierks Bently ft. Elle King – Different for Girls
Brothers Osborne – 21 Summer
Kenny Chesney ft Pink – Setting the World on Fire
Pentatonix ft Dolly Parton – Jolene
Chris Young ft Cassadee Pope – Think of You

It would be so cool for Dolly to get another Grammy here, but I’m going to go with Chris and Cassadee. Kenny and Pink could snag this though.

Best Country Song

Blue Ain’t Your Color
Die A Happy Man
Humble and Kind
My Church

Die a Happy Man. BIGGEST song in a long time. Mic Drop

Best Country Album

Brandy Clark – Big Day In a Small Town
Loretta Lynn – Full Circle
Maren Morris – Hero
Sturgill Simpson – A Sailors Guide To Earth
Keith Urban – Ripcord

Only one of these albums was nominated for best album all genre, and its the one that I have been talking about since it came out last April, Sturgil Simpson! This album is SO AMAZING! It ties together so many distinct sounds and makes one of the best total listening experiences I have witnessed in a long time. That said, Maren will probably get the win, with a chance that Brandy Clark takes it with an upset. Fingers crossed Im happily surprised and Sturgil pulls this off!
